The Basics of Branding for Entrepreneurs

Being an entrepreneur is demanding. It requires a lot of focus, energy and courage to step out and dedicate everything that you have into something that you believe in. Each entrepreneur’s story is unique and effective public relations can provide tools to effectively communicate that story and help your story become a success story. Here at Glass House PR, we are starting a new series dedicated to Public Relations and Entrepreneurship or as we will call it PRpreneurship. One of the most important steps in Before making any sales and stepping out there comes branding. Therefore, for our first post in the series, we will focus on the basics of branding, what it is and what it entails.       

A common misconception about branding is that it is focusing purely on design; logos and defining a specific aesthetic, but branding extends beyond that. Branding means making your brand visible and communicating your values, product or services, clearly and consistently. Having a successful brand strategy means understanding your brand inside and out while also understanding consumer needs and placing yourself in a position to meet those needs. In other words, in order to efficiently brand yourself, you must communicate who you, what your company values are and what your objectives are to your target audience and beyond.  that those outside your industry can understand. Branding is also based on what others say about you and your brand.

Logo: An interesting logo is the first thing that people recognize about your brand. When the other aspects of branding are done efficiently, a logo will help with brand recognition.

A written brand message: Incorporate your brand message in different materials, on your company website, social media platforms as well as newsletters and any other written material coming from your brand.

Creating a “voice” that reflects your brand: This can be done through social media, emails, and any other form of communication.

A memorable tagline: A simple yet memorable sentence that captures the essence of your brand is essential for proper branding. This is the main takeaway that sticks in the mind of

Consistency: A good branding strategy ensures consistency. Entrepreneurs should make sure that they are putting out the same consistent messaging out there.
