Here are a few steps that will help you do just that.
1. Create a social media plan and define success
Social media must be done strategically. Use online resources to help you create a social media plan if you are not sure where to start. Write everything down, including setting objective and goals, creating content and posting schedules in order to keep you on track. It is also important to define what success looks like for you. Make sure that your objectives are measureable and that your goals are realistic. This will help you when it comes to time to analyzing results of your social media efforts. You must treat your social media plan as you would any other business plan since it is a strong business tool that will help take you to the next level.
2. Personalize your platforms
If possible, get the same name for each of the platforms; this helps with keeping the brand consistent. Get similar profile pictures, background photos etc. to keep the flow between each platform seamless. It is important to make your followers feel that they are interacting with the same individual regardless of the platform. Make sure that your twitter bio has all of the relevant information including a link to where people can find your music. On Facebook, make sure that you have filled out the about me section completely, including your contact information.

It can get pretty boring when all you share on your twitter or Facebook profile is links to your YouTube videos or sound cloud account. Sharing these links is important, but understand each social media platform and create content that works for each audience. Share links to industry news, incorporate photos, articles or write reviews to music that you like. This will help make you more personable and even position you as an industry expert, which will help you attract followers who you can ultimately turn into loyal fans. Do not over-promote yourself. Strike a balance between promoting your content and offering valuable information to your fans.
4. Engage with your fans
Create unique hashtags that you incorporate into all of your social media pages. If you add a unique hashtag the end of tweet or instagram posts, you also encourage your fans to use and associate those hashtags with your brand. Music is an intimate experience and your fans want to feel connected to you. Reply to comments, follow them back and engage with them. When you connect to them effectively, you easily turn them into your brand ambassadors, leading to even more exposure.
